An 18-year-old Indian-American girl,Eesha Khare from Saratoga in California has developed a super-capacitor device that could charge cell phones in no time.The invention is presented at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair run by the Society for Science & the Public and fetched its creator the Intel Foundation Young Scientist Award.
The super-capacitor can wrap a lot of energy into a tiny space which can charge quickly and hold its charge for a long time.The device can be used for 10,000 charge-recharge cycles which is much more than the conventional rechargeable batteries that run for 1,000 cycles.
By using fundamentals of nano-chemistry,this energy-storage technology is developed which could make significant advances in various fields.According to the scientist,the gadget is only tested on an LED light but there are good chances for it work efficiently in other devices like mobile phones and other portable electronic devices etc.
“It is also flexible, so it can be used in roll-up displays and clothing and fabric. It has a lot of different applications and advantages over batteries in that sense,” says Eesha Khare.
The award price money will be used for the further development of this tiny device.The invention is certainly a major breakthrough as the battery charging technology as it is one section that suffers key roadblocks and requires enhancements.If this invention reaches the market,you can soon stop worrying about your phone battery life.
Though,it may not be available in the very near future,it is definitely a major invention which paves the way for new technological advancements.
